Fill your bank account by feeding your soul.

You've worked hard to build your career.
But work leaves you feeling empty and unfulfilled.

You want to do work that matters. But you also want to get paid.

You want hobbies, good health, and happy relationships. But work leaves you frustrated and depleted.

You want to figure out what's next. But it feels too late to make a change.

"Amazing. The program helped me find a career I often talked about but never seriously considered."

Katherine left a 30-year career in digital media. Her passion for ceramics led to her opening a unique home furnishings store selling items handcrafted by local artists.

Miserable work ruins lives

The average person spends 90,000 hours - one third of your life - working.  If you spend a third of your life in misery, it's unlikely the other two thirds will be joyful.

In addition to affecting your overall life satisfaction, miserable work has a negative impact on your health and the health of people around you.

People dissatisfied with their careers are more likely to:

  • experience exhaustion, burnout and stress1;
  • develop diseases such as cancer, heart disease and Type 2 diabetes2;
  • have children with mental health problems such as anxiety, depression and ADHD3.

For academic findings on the health impacts of job dissatisfaction on adults and children, see "Research" below.

A healthy, happy life requires purpose

A study of 7,000 adults by epidemiologists at the University of Michigan found people who lacked a strong life purpose were  more likely to die than those with a strong life purpose.

The researchers defined life purpose as: "a self-organizing life aim that stimulates goals", and the study results were true regardless of study participants' wealth, gender, or education.

(Aliya Alimujiang, MPH1; Ashley Wiensch, Jonathan Boss, et al. "Association Between Life Purpose and Mortality Among US Adults Older Than 50 Years." Journal of the American Medical Association. 2019;2(5).)

"I didn't really ever feel qualified to call myself an artist until completing this program."

Artist Kent C Weakley discovered Dream Lab after struggling to figure out what his career purpose was. After going through Dream Lab, he discovered his true passion for art and design.

"I know my goals and vision. But I was afraid to put them into words."

Business students at the University of Denver share their experience defining their purpose and creating a path to meaningful work.

Dream Lab is an intensive self-discovery program designed to clarify your purpose and guide you to meaningful work.

The foundation for our program is The Donnellan Method, a 3-stage change model that has helped thousands of people define their life purpose and pursue their unique "soul work."

The Donnellan Method

Combining academic findings and ancient wisdom, The Donnellan Method comprises 12 principles grouped into 3 stages: Past, Present and Future.

As you work through the lessons, exercises and research in each stage, the process reveals deep personal insights, guides you to action, and helps you make lasting change.

Expect epiphanies.

What you'll accomplish in each stage

As you work through the lessons, exercises and research in each stage, the process reveals deep insights, guides you to action, and supports you in making lasting change.

Research: Job satisfaction and health

  1. A 2018 study in the International Journal of Epidemiology found that adults with poor quality work - as measured by low pay, low job satisfaction, low job control and high job anxiety - had higher levels of chronic stress and biomarkers of cardiovascular and metabolic disease than adults who remained unemployed. (Tarani Chandola, Nan Zhang. "Re-employment, job quality, health and allostatic load biomarkers: prospective evidence from the UK Household Longitudinal Study." International Journal of Epidemiology, Volume 47, Issue 1, Feb 2018, Pp 47–57.
  2. A study published in Current Cardiology Reports analyzed 600,000 people and found that, regardless of age, gender and socioeconomic status, men and women who experience job strain and long working hours are 10-40% more likely to experience heart disease and stroke compared to people without those same work stressors. (Kivimäki, Mika, and Ichiro Kawachi. 2015. “Work Stress as a Risk Factor for Cardiovascular Disease.” Current Cardiology Reports 17 (9): 74-8.)
  3. Children were more mentally healthy - defined as showing fewer behavior issues from the Child Behaviors Checklist - when parents cared about work as a source of challenge, creativity, and enjoyment, without regard to the time spent.
    • To the extent that a father was performing well in and feeling satisfied with his job, his children were likely to demonstrate relatively few behavior problems,  independent of how long he was working.
    • For mothers, having authority and discretion at work was associated with mentally healthier children.
